What I've Been up To

So I have taken a long hiatus from the cyber world.....

thought I would post a few of the projects I've done lately ~

 ...this is the quilt I did for my daughter Mackenzie's room...

...I fell in love with the fabric when I saw it (Arcadia from Sanae, I think)...

...but it turned out to be one of those projects where you love the fabric, but not the quilt...

...just didn't quite turn out how I had planned...

...a couple of the baby quilts I have done lately...

 ...this is a quilt my girls and I made for a church auction...

...it was a 'green quilt' using the environmental conservation fabric lines by Debbie Mumm...

...turned out cute and rather large; covered the top surface of my king size bed...

 ...last Christmas I made aprons for a few of my sister-in-laws...

...I used this pattern...

...super fast and easy and oh so cute...

...my daughter and her friend went to a week long church camp and wanted cute little bags to take with them...

...so of course we had to make some!...

...if you haven't tried making bags yet you should...

...so fun...

Homespun Stars

This is a great quilt.... I wish I had NO friends

with birthdays.

and could just keep it!

just kidding :)

It's easy!

6.5 inch squares

applique the stars

2.5 inch log cabin around square.

Sew together!

and it is BEAUTIFUL!

and stippling on the yellow.

I almost cancelled the party...
so I could keep the quilt!

But I love Susan more than that.
But just barely.

Very Hungry Caterpillar Storybook Quilt

Storybook quilt I made for my boys based on Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar
a tiny and very hungry caterpillar started to look for some food Monday 1 apple
Tuesday 2 pears
Wednesday 3 plums
Thursday 4 strawberries
Friday 5 oranges

Saturday: chocolate cake, ice-cream cone, pickle, swiss cheese, salami, lolliipop, cherry pie, sausage, cupcake, watermelon ~ he had a stomachachenow he wasn't hungry - or little any more - he was a big, fat caterpillarhe built a small house - he stayed inside for two weeks, he nibble a hole, pushed his way out and...
he was a beautiful butterfly
Pieced together back......

Snowmen in the Woods

So I made this quilt this past summer for my sister-in-law who LOVES snowmen......

of course I am just now getting around to finishing one for me!

This is a very versatile pattern and can be done many different ways to suit your own taste. The pattern is a combination of rotary cutting and piecing, paper foundation blocks and applique. It can be found at http://www.quiltmaker.com/special/patterns

I'm glad I finally got it done now that it is the end of January and down here in Texas we are headed into spring! : )

Quilt for a New Cowpoke

Bliss and I have a friend who just adopted a little boy from Russia.........any excuse to make a quilt!

We used a vintage-looking print for the large blocks with little cowboys and cowgirls and trimmed them out with a pieced sashing of smaller squares.

I backed the quilt with a snuggly flannel and appliqued his name.
A fast and easy keepsake!

The Stars at Night....

....Deep in the heart of Texas....

[did I mention we have a little state pride down here?]

I have made several of these quilts now and have done different style blocks on each one. Nine patch, rail fence, whatever. Each section is 4x8 and each block is 6.5 inches (including seam allowance) so it makes a nice size lap quilt.

The star is appliqued on leaving a 0.5 inch border which I then clip fringe style so it 'rags' nicely when washed.

Everything's bigger in Texas! ~

Lubbock Quilt

Bliss has been after me to post some pics of my 'Lubbock quilt.'

She and I have made a couple of these quilts [on a much smaller scale] for friends who have moved away.

I got a bit carried away on mine; it's between a Queen and King size. It was fun to make [but not to quilt]; I backed it with a fine gauge courdoury, so it's very heavy.

Bliss here.... this is a picture of the Lubbock quilt we all made for our quilting friend Julie Olson who deserted us to move to Michigan.
