YW Camp Quilt - 2014

Once again I was asked to make the camp quilt for our Stake Young Women's camp this year.  The theme was based on The Wizard of Oz, so I designed a pattern from a handout.  Cathy did another wonderful job in quilting it.

I made this baby quilt for our local quilt shop (which, unfortunately, is going out of business).  I had never really sewn on minkie before and am not sure I want to again -- but I probably will as minkie is so soft and this quilt turned out to be so cute.  I even did the little bit of quilting that needed to be done. :)

Emmy's Favorite

Well, after what seems like (and has been) years and years, I finally finished this quilt -- "Emmy's Favorite" from the book Floral Quilts From Grandma's Cupboard. See Bliss' quilt here, which she finished a long, long time ago.  Several of us in our little quilt group decided to make this quilt as a group -- each person made six blocks of whatever section in the quilt they had.  (I did the block in the lower left-hand corner, with all the little flowers!)  After I got the blocks back from everyone (Bliss, Cathy, Maureen, and Pam), I put the blocks together and had my quilt top all done except for the outside border.  I couldn't decide whether to put a different fabric on each side or use one fabric for the border, so I put it away and didn't look at it for a long time.  As you can see, I finally pulled it out and decided to use one fabric for the outside border.  It was a happy day when I got it back from Cathy after she quilted it and I had the binding on -- it was done!

YW Camp Quilt - 2013

I was asked to make the camp quilt for our stake's Young Women's camp again this year.  I found the panel (Riley Blake) at Mormon Handicraft in Deseret Book Fort Union (in Midvale, Utah) in the summer of 2012 and got it, not even knowing whether or not I would be asked to do the camp quilt again this year.  This is the pattern I used; however, I opted not to put the striped border between the piano keys and the outside border.  Their color this year is yellow, so I put the borders and backing in yellow.  If I were to do it differently, I would put darker squares in the corners of the piano keys.  Cathy did a fabulous job once again with her quilting of it.

The Night Before Christmas

I just finished making this quilt top for Darlene.  The pattern, The Night Before Christmas, is by Bunny Hill and the fabrics were from French General.  What a wonderful interpretation of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" -- so cute!  I am also making a similar-looking quilt for myself, but don't have it quite finished.

Nativity

This is the quilt I made for our stake's community nativity exhibit (the 4th year for this event).  The nativity panel was the inspiration for choice of border fabrics and for choice of quilting used throughout the entire quilt.  I wanted to use fabrics that would draw one's eye to the center of the nativity -- the Christ Child.  Cathy also accomplished this with her quilting.

Cabin by the Lake

I made this display quilt for a local quilt shop earlier this year.  The shop has since sold all the kits and fabric, so now it is mine.  I wish I had a cabin to take it to:(   It is soooo cute!  Cathy did a fabulous job quilting it.

Lilliana

I finished this quilt last year in about a day.  It was made with fabrics from the Lilliana Collection by Andover Fabrics, using their pattern.  It would be a good pattern to use if one has a border fabric to showcase.  And it is so easy to do!

YW Camp Quilt 2012

The theme for this year's Young Women's camp was "Happily Ever After"  and their color was blue.  I had lots of fun designing this quilt.  I took my inspiration from a similar picture, but with a castle instead of the temple.  Taking "Happily Ever After" one step farther, I added "Eternally" to go with the temple.  Cathy did a wonderful job quilting it.

Lots of Dots

Lots of Dots was a quilt I finished up last fall. I really like it except the petals are too stiff. I wanted to use up some Heat'n Bond Lite that I had and I didn't cut the centers out of the petals before putting it on the fabric -- consequently, very stiff. And Cathy had a dilly of a time quilting it because of the stiffness. I am hoping it will not be quite so stiff after laundering. Guess I will go back to using Lite Steam-a-Seam2 for appliques in the future.

Taxi

McK chose the Taxi pattern and picked out the black, blue and teal fabrics for her quilt a while back. I secretly made it for her last year and surprised her this past Christmas (2011). She was very pleased and excited.
I made this quilt for Mariel and Dallin's wedding in December of 2010. Mariel also picked the taxi pattern and wanted it done in whites, creams and grays. I added an extra row and borders to make it fit a queen-sized bed. At first I wasn't sure how to use the colors effectively, but am pleased with how it turned out.

Papillon Jardin

I made this quilt for oldest son, Kip, and his new wife, Samantha, who were married in August. They picked the pattern and the black and white fabrics (from my stash!). I added two rows to the side and two rows to the bottom of the original pattern to make the quilt large enough for their queen-sized bed. It went together very quickly after the cutting out of the pieces was done. Cathy did the beautiful quilting. I was pleased with the results and they loved it.

YW Camp Quilt

With the Young Women's camp about a month away, the Stake YW Camp Leader asked me if I would do a camp quilt. She gave me the names of the flowers each group of girls had chosen and asked me to incorporate these into the quilt. So, I put together a design, adding the theme, scripture, and value colors to pull it together and make it bigger -- it turned out about 50 x 69 inches. The center flower -- the artichoke -- was chosen by the priesthood and since there were no more virtue colors, I bordered it in black. I wasn't able to find the flower in fabric either, so I downloaded a color picture of it, then took it to the local fabric store where they printed it onto a piece of fabric for me. Cathy quilted it and added the virtues (in each virtues color) in the black border (hard to see in the picture). It was both fun and challenging. Hopefully, the young woman who wins it will like it too!

Porcelain Around the World

I picked up this free pattern at Wal-Mart in 2007 and then purchased the fabric, cut it out some time in the next couple of years, and finally got around to stitching it in 2010. It is a very big quilt: 92 x 92. Rather than cut each 5" strip into 5" squares as the pattern suggests, I just sewed the strips together and then cut across the strips for the rows--much simpler than working with individual squares. Yes, another unfinished project that I crossed off my (mental) list last year.

Nicht Ganannt

This was one of the unfinished projects that I completed this year. It was made using a free pattern I got at Wal-Mart. There was no name on the pattern; hence, the Professor named the quilt "Nicht Ganannt" -- the quilt with no name. I used off-white muslin for the backing. Cathy did a fabulous job quilting it. It's one of my favorites! I'm so glad I finally finished it and hope to finish many more from my big pile of work-in-progress quilts so I can enjoy them too.

Simply ... Pillow Shams

We went to visit them for Thanksgiving and were able to take the rest of their wedding gifts (and the shams) to them.

Watermelon Picnic

This quilt was made especially for some new friends -- my daughter's in-laws -- in remembrance of the exciting summer of 2010. They invited us to stay with them when we went to Maryland for the wedding reception there. What awesome people to get to know better! We had a wonderful time! Black Mountain Quilts has great patterns and this is one of them -- very easy and fun to make. I added the little black/white stripe and the green border, which I thought really finished off the quilt -- and made it a little larger.

Simply ...

"Simply Amy" from the July/August 2010 issue of McCall's Quilting magazine was the pattern chosen by my daughter for her wedding quilt -- Simply Kali! She specified that the colors used be two blues and white. So, this is the quilt I made. The actual pattern made a smaller quilt, but I added rows to the side and bottom and extra borders so that it turned out to be a large queen-sized quilt -- huge! I had never done a "modern" quilt before, so it was a challenge for me. My friend, Cathy, did the wonderful quilting.

American Spirit

I made this quilt using red, white and blue fabric -- all with the same design. After finishing it, I thought that this was a good example of what not to do. However, everyone who sees it really likes it. Susie Edwards designed this quilt in 2002, so I don't know if the pattern is still available or not.

Tranquility

A couple of months ago, I borrowed Bliss' idea of her Easy Peasy quilt and made this quilt as a wedding gift. I used Sandy Gervais' Tranquility jelly roll, a fat quarter for the thin border, and some yardage for the outer border. It went together quite fast and I was very pleased with the look.
